The ribbon on our mayoral sashes is, as required by regulation, designed in the Belgian tricolor . The alderman’s sashes are yellow and black.

When do you wear your mayoral sash?
Every mayor is required to wear his or her sash when officiating a wedding or in the event of a disturbance of public order.
This rule applies particularly in Belgium, but mayors in France and Italy also wear sashes during important occasions. It will come as no surprise that the colors of the sash are based on the colors of the national flag of the respective country.
